In collaboration with students from the ELSAVA School of Design and Engineering, I developed the BARRAIRCADE project for Extinction Rebellion. I collaborated with design students Cristina Pan, Dayne Magnayne and Maria Martinez. Working directly with Extinction Rebellion Barcelona, we constructed a flexible open-source street barrier system that can be used to block police and cars. The design consists of reusable trash bags, straps, and Velcro fasteners that can be reconfigured in different ways depending on need and preference. Depending on the prevailing demonstration conditions, a barricade can be constructed using either just the Airblocks or a human barrier. Within Global Project I, all female students of the group work worked interdisciplinary on the project. Various scientific methods and research helped us to present the solution. Nowadays, the system is used within various Extinction Rebellion groups.
